Review | Essence Cosmetics Mono Eyeshadows

It's fairly hard to find decent single eyeshadows at a cheap price but Essence Cosmetics delivers. They come out with new collections all the time, sometimes containing new shadows and sometimes they simply release new shades and discontinue others, while I kind of consider that a bit of a double edged sword it does guarantee a rotation of colours and finishes for those of us who collect these damn little things like they're Pokemon.

They have a pretty vast range of finishes ranging from mattes, metallic, frost and duo-chrome. Some of their colours are hit and miss though but you find that trait with low and high brands anyway. My favourite thing about these individual shadows is that they're magnetic and super easy to de-pot. All you need is a needle and they pop straight out! This has me pretty excited to keep collecting them and popping them into some personalised shadow books (DIY eyeshadow palette side project of mine). Also you gotta love a shadow with convex embossing on them. Totally digging the galaxy vibe!

Along with their continual rolling out of new collections I'm super pumped for their Nudes Collection and pray to the Makeup Gods that it arrives in Oz super soon, I'm going to snap them up so fast I'll leave tread marks. Moving on, onto the colours I do own.

From Left to Right: 22 Blockbuster matte effect. I find the pigmentation with this to be very lacking but it works fine as a flesh toned base shadow which is what I use it for (N/A). 74 Peach Beach holographic effect. When you look at this in the pan it looks a teeny bit holographic but I find that doesn't run true applied to the skin, on the skin it looks metallic/sheen like, however the colour is great (Leaving Soon). 03 Starlight sparkling effect. This is a straight up grey toned silver with a semi-glitter look to it.  For ultimate pigmentation its best applied with a damp brush (Leaving Soon). Cappuccino Please. I've read that this is comparable to MAC's Shroom. It's a beige silver colour with a sheen like finish (N/A). Party All Night. Is the cult classic amongst the bunch. It's your classic taupey-purple metallic shade, perfect go-to failsafe shade (Fucking Leaving Soon).

From Left to Right: 06 Metropolitan sparkling effect. Is a dark brown with a warm undertone to it, while it's classified as a shimmer all I see is some tiny flecks of shimmer, here and there, it leans more matte (Leaving Soon). 09 Get Ready shimmer effect. Another dark brown but this one leans on the neutral/cool side, again more matte than shimmer (N/A). 70 Fox in a Box metallic effect.  This a nice copper orange shade with a metallic finish, although it runs a little more on the gritty/chunky side (N/A). 59 Copper Island shimmer effect. Is another copper orange that leans slightly on the matte side and applies smoother than Fox in a Box. The two mixed together make a great combo though. (N/A).

Overall these are fantastic drugstore individual shadows and I do highly recommend picking up Metropolitan and Party All Night, they make great staple shades for a steal of a price. Essence is available ALL OVER THE WORLD so check here for your retailers; otherwise here in Australia you can find them in Target & Priceline for a bargain $3.25 each!
