Chit Chat Update | Perth, Sydney & Sephora

It's been a bit on the chaotic side of things for me now that things are heading towards the end of the year. My first semester of uni wrapped up, I visited Perth for a wedding and made a last minute dash to Sydney for the opening of the much awaited Australian Sephora. While all of these things are in their own little ways achievements and milestones it has been a tad on the rocky side of things emotionally for me these past few months. So I've decided to do a collective roundup of what has been going on in my life, not only to connect with my readers but also to put it all in words. Sometimes putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) can be incredibly therapeutic, especially nowadays, with social media being such a vital touchstone in our social lives.

Not even days after my first semester of uni finished up, my mother and I were due to fly out to Perth for a family friends wedding. Mind you I still had my final assignments to complete, being in another persons house where the wifi is not a guarantee makes writing essays a hell of a lot harder particularly if you are in said house for more than 5days. That being said I was given the opportunity to explore Perth a little bit, visiting some busy markets and dining in for a pint at a warehouse styled brewery restaurant called Little Creatures. While I enjoyed the day, it was the only day I was moderately included in any social activity among those my age in that house during my visit, while I'm grateful things felt forced afterwards which was highly disappointing but then again these people didn't know me too well. I feel like sometimes I expect too much from socialisation or friendships because I'm usually left feeling excluded in many cases. Perth is quite a lovely place, I have noticed the streets and local tourist attractions are kept in far better condition compared to where I live. My mother and I did go out to dinner on our last night and I treated myself to my first Baskin & Robbins experience although it was kind of a letdown. I chose the Peppermint Choc-Chip but the texture was incredibly gritty. The highlight for me was strolling around Perth's Bay areas, the water is incredibly blue and clear in some areas giving you a great view of the sea life.

I had previously this year tried very hard to solidify plans to attend IMATS this year which promptly kept falling through. So when a trip to the Sydney Sephora Opening was proposed I crash tackled the idea. Although I went solo in the end I tried to make it enjoyable, to try as many new things as I could and to truly try and enjoy myself. First things first, I had absolutely no idea Sydney had double-decker trains. When I saw them I think my jaw hit the ground. I only had two days to spend in Sydney. I wish it had been longer. I had planned my 1st day to be a shopping day and to go to the Taronga Zoo the next day but being short on time it turned out public transport wise it was going to be a huge hassle to get there so I ended up shopping a bit more (thats always good) but my feet were dead by like lunchtime and I headed back to the backpackers to put my feet up and laze around until my scheduled ride to the airport arrived for me. My first day consisted of my navigating my way from the airport to the backpackers. Turns out that underground Sydney is incredibly humid but it's amazing how connected everything in Sydney is underground, I had taken the airport train to the CBD area and had somehow made my way from the station platform into the Queen Elizabeth Building which turns out to be a shopping mall on the inside! Once I finally made it above ground and outside I made my way downtown I guess via Pitt St glancing at all the 7-11's, Starbucks Pieface shops. All of which we don't have here in little ol' Adelaide. I may have even had some heart palpitations when I spotted Topshop but that could also have been the long walk and dragging my luggage down Pitt St, regardless. Topshop people!

I debated whether to make the little video above but it's also a little memento for me too so I went ahead and made it. I think it came together nicely. After I had dropped my bag off at the Backpackers I made my way straight to the Pitt St Mall as I wasn't really sure how the opening was going to go down and quickly discovered a line the length of the outside strip. So with my head held high I joined the masses and proceeded to wait. I waited until I burned. Damn 4hr sunscreen and my poor forethought not to put some on my shoulder blades. I even chatted with some girls in line with me. While the conversations were great to pass time quite a lot of the girls around me were a lot younger than I was and the likes of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were brought up as topics. I don't think they thought my stating that "Bieber was such a pretty girl for someone who dresses very masculine" was funny. Oh well. I was also a little miffed at one point with one girl who was very adamant that only high end products are worth the time of day, and considering her age made her seem very snobbish, but to each their own. Once I was finally let into the store, the system was very much like an elite club in that only a certain amount was allowed in-store and when people left thats when others were let in; I attempted to browse. It was chaotic. Talk about wall to wall full of people. In the end I only grabbed things on the fly, it wasn't worth it to try and wait around to get a decent look at things, it was far too busy. Although I am happy with my purchases.

Next day I had a small browse back in Pitt St and Westfield and then a small wonder in the QVB to have a look at The Body Shop to pick up a cleansing oil. It was nice to browse around and indulge in Starbucks and take in the sights. I came very close to buying a Starbucks mug but changed my mind. Perhaps next time. Fun fact, we used to have a Starbucks here in SA but they opened it in the southern suburbs so it didn't profit enough and closed down. If only they'd made the logically choice and opened one in Rundle Mall, then I could have my Gingerbread Cookie Latte each year. (DELICIOUS BTW)

On the homefront things have been up and down. My emotions have been all over the place, in part due to my thyroid and the other part is anxiety. My procrastination for one has been a major stresser for me and because it's something I do to myself makes it somewhat worse in the self-loathing department. All of the Youtubers uploading their Vlogmases have put me into quite the festive mood, of which I am not normally. I attempted to put the tree up and buy new ornaments which resulted in a spat between my mother and I. Never touch someone else ornaments I guess that goes to show. Just makes me all the more eager to have my own tree to adorned with what I wish. So for now, while I'm away from uni  I am mostly home bound and trying top keep myself entertained and busy. Trying to blog more. Working towards Scholarships for next year and working on being an adult. I'm having my hearing assessed. I'm getting prescription reading glasses and I'm working towards a car early next year.
