So many products but alas not all of them are winners in my makeup draw. The sad truth is that not all products are meant for you. It's the harsh harsh reality of the cosmetic world. Being a Beauty Blogger and Makeup Enthusiast means I probably (definitely) own more products than most which just means I have a larger stockpile of products that unfortunately didn't make the cut with me. So sit back with a cuppa and have a read!
Sleek Oil Free creme to powder SPF15 foundation: I was pretty excited to get my mitts on some of the foundations from Sleek as their shade range is pretty vast for a drugstore brand catering to some very fair skin tones (yay) but sadly this formula isn't the easiest to work with. It's difficult to blend, exaggerates texture and dry skin and leaves my skin looking ill and sallow. I've tried it with countless primers and brushes and it doesn't want to apply evenly or easily to my skin. While it doesn't work for me I do recommend it for those with severely oily skin. I've read it glides effortlessly on those with oilier textured skin.
Sleek Skin Revive SPF15 foundation: The story is very similar to the one above. The difference is that it's a liquid version. What makes these hard to blend is a bit beyond me. However to help me sleep at night I assume it's my dry skin and the fact they both have SPF in them. Regardless I had to shelf the both of them.
Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm: This little pretty bottle encompasses the beautiful aroma of lemon slices but....it doesn't do anything for my lips. The texture is very thick, not very emollient at all and has gritty particles in it. I can see why this would be good as a night balm but I find I wake up in the morning with peeling lips. Not sure if I got a bad jar but this is just a hyped up balm that isn't suited to me. Either way that's $15 dollars down the drain.
Essence Lash Mania Reloaded False Lash Mascara: Apart from the Crazy Volume Mascara (review here), this is probably the other best selling mascara from Essence and loved by many bloggers...but I'm not one of them. I like length and a natural finish and this doesn't deliver that effect at all. The brush is huge and the lip of the tube is too wide for the brush; meaning it doesn't pull excess formula from the brush as you pull the brush out. It's quite a wet formula which for me results in clumps and spider lashes. This, is just not the mascara for me.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo: This, in my opinion, is one 'over-hyped' product. I got it to help my congestion, all those blocked pores and bumps under the skin that never really come to a head but will release gunk if provoked aka squeezed. The La Roche-Posay brand is a worldwide phenom but I'm too scared to try anything else from their line. I had included two new products to my regime when my skin broke out with Perioral Dermatitis last year, Embyrolisse Lait Creme Concentrate and this. I'm not sure which one was the catalyst but both were removed from my routine and never touched again. I used this for almost a month and didn't see any improvement in my skin and it stung a little bit to use. Sad times all around.
Australis Tint my Brow: I've said it before and I'll say it again, Australis do semi-copy the aesthetic packing of cult products from other brands. In this case the Makeup Forever Aqua Brow. The Australis Brow tint is nothing like the former though. The formula is very very wet and dries quite crusty on my brows and the colour is off for me. All in all it's quite the dud for me and my brows.
Innoxa Eyebrow Tint Pen: Ever since I saw how well the Suqqu Brow Pen works (for youtuber and blogger Shameless Fripperies) I wanted to get my hands on something similar. Suqqu isn't a easily accessible brand in Adelaide. I swatched the Innoxa pen on my hand instore and the the colour was fine, a tad dark but I could work with that. However it does not wear very well on the brows or give a natural finish. It applies like a cheap felt pen and flakes off. I'd never had a problem with eyebrow products wearing off until I encountered this.
Phew! Until part two interwebbers!
Any products you've encountered that didn't wind up being all you thought it would be?
Gidget xx
Oh gosh, I totally agree with Tint my Brow, this product is so terrible, it made my brows look so dense and dried rock hard! No thank you! I'm also not fond of their face primer :( I can't seem to get Australis products to work in my favour, I want to like them!
ReplyDeleteI'm devo to hear that the Sleek foundation is a bust, I just picked up a mini colour selecting set to give it a try but haven't had the chance yet. I've got similar sounding skin to you so I dare say I'll have some pretty big troubles with it.
That's a shame that the Nuxe lip balm and Effaclar Duo didn't live up to their hype, and they're not cheap either! I'm currently using Effaclar Duo and fingers crossed it helps with my acne.
